“To your own self be true,” is a statement that many of us live by, but this way of thinking is not compatible with the word of God. When we are true to ourselves only, we have failed to keep God’s commandments to love Him first and foremost and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We should not be myopic in the way we express love toward other people. True love is not merely the emotions of love there is more to it than a feeling. The truth is true love comes from God, as a matter of fact God is love and the love He has for each one of us supersedes any amount of love we think we have attained from other people. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” As a result of God giving his only son Jesus we now have salvation if we believe that he died on the cross for our sins. No amount of money or riches can pay for that type of love.
Furthermore, we must remember that it does not matter about the color of our skin or how much riches we possess, in his eyes we are all equal. It is important to remember that we cannot be saved based on anything that we do or give to God. God simply wants us to believe in him and live our lives according to his word. Ultimately, we need to give our life to God and further experience his love as we grow in grace. I have never experienced the love that God gives from any human, His love is truly one of kind and can never be replaced. In conclusion, remember the Word of God in 1 Corinthians 13:13 that says, “Three things will last forever-faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love.”
